about

DS012

Gossamer spirits breathe and move fluidly in an affecting preternatural scene…

Decaying Spheres welcomes Australia-based Floating Shrine to their collection of releases with the forthcoming LP Growth and Decay. This 6-track LP guides you into a space that is both soothing and vertiginous.

This first full-length release from this artist provides beautifully crafted soundscapes of swirling ambient instrumentation. Adopting a sound that balances feelings of the dizzyingly sublime and deep catharsis, Floating Shrine offers passage into a fragile and expansive world.

Growth and Decay is a deeply moving release, with moments of true affection. The track Warmth, for example, emerges gradually, the vitality of your surroundings glowing as great limbs of euphoria reach and recede before you, the intricacy of the sonic image revealing itself as particles buzz and colour blooms slowly. The grandeur of the experience is clearly portrayed as majestic notes waver and dip into dissonance from the emotional force.

Conversely, tracks like Numen opt for a more despairing tone – though not devoid of hope. Aching string melodies join with plucked lamenting notes that fall in and out of the slipstream of swirling ambient sound. Here, the comfort found on other tracks on the LP is largely extracted, as incessant rain falls and you watch an inevitable and overwhelming celestial event unfold.

Each track is intent on lifting you up and away from your corporeal being, threatening to separate the earth beneath you with its sublime power and energy. Floating Shrine gifts the listener a deeply rewarding release, the euphoria that plays out provides an opportunity for true introspection and, ultimately, a detachment from the physical realm as you float in an incredibly-constructed aether.

A touching journey through a world that provides lulling catharsis and a deep melancholy in equal measure.
